Our 7 Ways To A Happier YOU
  • Buffer

Happiness is a choice.  We are both great believers of this truth, and our experiences in the past have taught us that life is just too short to be unhappy.  You might say that we are nuts to think that life is perfect but we both know that it’s not. Life will always have its ups and downs. Nothing is perfect but the way we deal with what is thrown at us is what matters.  You can choose to be defeated or choose to look at the silver lining in whatever situation that befalls you.

If you see that we always have quotations on our Facebook walls, it’s because we always draw inspiration from them. We like to share them with our friends and families so that they can uplift and put a smile on someone’s face and hope in their hearts.  We are sharing here the quotations that we love and we hope it brings inspiration to you too, our wonderful readers.

Here are 7 ways, we feel, that can lead you to live a happier life:

1.  Do not point fingers at others.

“You know when you point your finger there are 3 fingers pointing right back at you” ~ author unknown
Owning up to your circumstances is one of the best ways to be happier in the long run.  We need to take responsibility for our actions and choices and not blame people for our unhappiness.

2.  Enjoy the company of positive people.

“The key is to keep company with people who will uplift you whose presence calls forth your best” ~ Epictetus Quotes
We have found this to be very helpful in our life journey.  We are lucky to have found each other.  One thing we always make sure to do is encourage and uplift each other. Many times having someone to talk with helps a lot.

3.  Be grateful everyday.

“Choosing to be positive and having a grateful attitude is going to determine how you’re going to live your life.” – Joel Osteen
Being thankful for what you have and not complaining about what you don’t have is a great way to kick start your journey in finding happiness.  Looking at the glass half full rather than half empty is the way to go.

4.  Give without expecting anything in return.

“You have it easily in your power to increase the sum total of this world’s happiness now. How? By giving a few words of sincere appreciation to someone who is lonely or discouraged. Perhaps you will forget tomorrow the kind words you say today, but the recipient may cherish them over a lifetime.” -Dale Carnegie
This quotation says it all. Sharing our time, having a listening heart and helping others is a great way to feel joy.  We always feel inspired and happy when we know we have touched someone’s life.

5.  It’s all in the attitude.

“Any fact facing us is not as important as our attitude toward it, for that determines our success or failure” -Norman Vincent Peale
It’s not that we don’t go through hard times in both our lives, but it’s our attitude towards the situation that we are expereincing that helps us move forward and keep the joy in our hearts intact.

6.  Love yourself first and foremost.

“It’s not your job to like me – It’s mine” ~ Byron Katie
Only when you have learned to love yourself will you be able to find true happiness.  When you give yourself time to grow, feel, achieve then; and only then, can one share love and give to others and feel fulfilled.  Life is a journey, not a task to be endured. Finding yourself in your personal journey is a treasure worth discovering.

7.  Make lemonade when lemons are thrown at you.

“Positive and negative are directions. Which direction do you choose?” ~ Author Unknown
When you are facing problems you always have the choice to look at it as a challenge or an opportunity to make life better.  You can either feel defeated and give up or you can face the problem head on and find solutions. You can even ask for help when you need it. Prayers and keeping a positive attitude helps a lot.  Sometimes we don’t see or understand why bad things happen to us, but when the right time comes you will eventually see that there was a reason why. You just haven’t seen it yet.

Are there other traits that you feel we missed here?  Please do share with us, we would love to hear from you.

I love this post and the pints are bang on. I do have one minor quibble though, and that’s the happiness is a choice thing.

We pretty much know that about 50% of our happiness levels are genetic and 10% environmental. So that does leave a lot of wiggle room in the 40% that comes from choice, and enough to make most people very happy.

However there are some people who are denied that choice through illnesses like clinical depression and cognitive issues. Telling them just to be happy is akin to telling a cancer patient just to get better.

And I know you didn’t say that, and I know you are generalizing as we have to do when blogging, but I do think it’s an important point because the last thing we want to do with depressed people is make them even worse because they think they are also lacking in some way.

As I say though, really good post, thanks.

You made an excellent point Tim, thank you for sharing that. it is through comments from the community that help us also realize and learn some facts of life from a different perspective.

Thank you Tim!! As Misty said, it is through the comments that is the other half of blog posts and make them come alive. We really appreciate you sharing your thoughts and perspective!!
