Weather Channel - Knowing what is in store for you weather wise in a particular city you will be traveling to will have an impact on your itinerary. With that reason in mind, we highly recommend you have a weather app installed on your phone. The Weather Channel app works on all smartphones. The app will allow you to see an hour by hour and even a 10 day forecast. The free app will also alert you when there is a severe weather alert.
Instagr.am - Capturing memories and sharing them with family and friends is what makes traveling so much fun. Whether it be food or scenery photos, the best photo sharing app we recommend is Instagr.am. You can use filters to add color and depth to your photos to make them really interesting. You can really be creative with this app. The app is free and you can easily share photos to your Facebook and Twitter accounts.
My TSA - Our favorite feature on this free app is it will allow you to know what you can and can’t bring with you when you go through the security checkpoint at the airport. It also has a guide on all the things you need to know about getting through airport security quick on your next trip, from acceptable IDs, clothing, packing liquids, food and gifts information to name a few. Another plus is that it will let you know if there are any delays on flights from the different airports around the country.
TripAdvisor City Guides - is a free travel guide covering nine major North American cities plus major cities in Europe, Asia and Australia. Since you download each guide directly to your device, there is no need to have a live data connection to the app. You’ll have access to over 50 million user reviews with thousands added everyday. You can even share your own reviews right in the app. Utilize your phone’s GPS function with the built-in self guided tours to explore interesting points of interest as well as find the best hotels, restaurants or attractions nearby.
Packing Pro - is a comprehensive packing list app designed to make your travel preparation organized and pain free. Features include: expert list assistant which automatically creates packing lists based on number of travelers, days, weather expected at your destination among other criteria. Sync to all your iOS devices with full iCloud support. Full sorting and search capabilities are included. It even allows you to export your lists to Google Docs and share via email.
Tripit - is an app and a website specifically designed to keep all your travel arrangements and information in one easy to use itinerary. To build your itinerary, you simply forward all your travel confirmation emails to firstname.lastname@example.org and the app does the rest. TripIt automatically recognizes email confirmations from over 3000 booking sites, hotels, airlines another travel vendors. You also have access to full terminal maps for over 136 airports as well as real time aircraft position for flights in progress.
Hipmunk - is a very cool flight and hotel search app that offers a unique interface. When you search for flights, the results are presented to you on a timeline so you can easily compare your options. Flights can be shorted by cost, time, stops and “agony” factor which takes into account all three criteria. Once you decide on your flights, Hipmunk directly links to the appropriate airline’s website to complete your purchase. Hipmunk also does the same for hotel reservations.
